Reasons for sleeping and waking up early

Evening at 9 - 11pm: is the time for eliminating unnecessary/toxic chemicals (detoxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes). This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music. If during this time a housewife is still in an unrelaxed state such as washing the dishes or monitoring children doing their homework, this will have a negative impact on health.

Evening at 11pm - 1am: is the detoxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 1 - 3am: detoxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 3 - 5am: detoxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the detoxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.

Morning 5 -7am: detoxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.

Morning 7 - 9am: absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time. Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am, for those who are sick. Breakfast before 7:30am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit. Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast late until 9 - 10am rather than no meal at all.

Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of removing unnecessary chemicals. Aside from that, midnight to 4:00 am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood. There, have a good sleep and don't sleep late.

The top five cancer-causing foods

1. Hot dogs

Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can't live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate.

2. Processed meats and bacon

Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, baco
n, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.

3. Doughnuts

Doughnuts are cancer-causing double trouble. First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer

4. French fries
Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries.

5. Chips, crackers, and cookies
All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

Unprofessionalism by Health Care Providers in the Operating Room

The video below will show you how a person with a high degree acts so very unprofessional. They were laughing, giving jokes, and even documenting the operation to the helpless patient who is sedated and don't know what is happening around him. They were laughing because the man had a can of body spray stock on his asshole. It is said that it was inserted by someone whom he had sex the other night. Well I'll skip the details about that. Coz' that's not the issue. The issue is why the health care providers whom the patient entrusted his body to this operation would do such a thing.

We (mr.sound and mrs.sound) belong to this profession also. We recently became registered nurses. And as a newby to the world health care team, I think this kind of attitude or action isn't acceptable by any means! Review your code of ethics you arrogant piece of shit (I'm referring to the persons involved). Patients entrust their lives to us health care providers, because they know we will take care of their ailment while they are sick.

"to do no harm",
All the medical staff who were present and did laugh and gave jokes to the patient did violate this. Harm in the sense that they made fun of the person. Making fun of someone could hurt someone also. What if you were the one lying on that table and don't know what on earth will happen next and all around you is laughing at you.

"Patient confidentiality",
Consents are very important in medical field. Before you do an invasive procedure you need to have a consent from the patient or someone with a mature mind if minor/unable. Consents is needed to have documents of the procedure or you would like to document any piece of the body removed from that patient. I remembered before when I was on my practicum years on the hospital my classmate was told by the surgeon that he should ask permission first before taking a picture of a small cyst that had been remove from the patient left armpit. See even a small cyst you should ask a consent from the patient. Because that is his/her property and you should RESPECT the right of the patient.

I just wanted to point out even though I'm new I think everybody should know this. Patient seek help to health care providers because they know you can be trusted in the sense of confidentiality and doing your job well. We should act our roles well and be guided by our ethics. Remember it is our license, our degree and most of all our patients lives on the line. So don't make fun about lives, you could jeopardized everything that you'd work hard for and even destroy a life.

Sexual Intimacy for Longevity of Life

Let me share to you this article that I saw on Yahoo Health that was written by Dr. Maoshing Ni about the how sexual intimacy could enhance longevity of your own life.

From repressive societies to promiscuous indulgences, sex has been a subject of obsession throughout human history, and through many evolutions continues to intrigue us. The act of intercourse becomes much more than mere copulation when enacted in a healthy way. Keep reading to find out how it can affect your health and longevity.

An Active Sex Life for Longevity
Studies have shown that sexually active seniors are the happiest men and women of any age group. And no wonder: healthy sexual intimacy is nature's veritable fountain of youth. It can raise the levels of substances that lengthen your life span, including endorphins, DHEA, and growth hormone.

And it can lower those that shorten it, like the stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol. When sexuality is fulfilling, it not only improves the quality of your years, but also the quantity of your years!

3 Essential Principles to Healthy Sexuality
Chinese medicine has recognized for thousands of years the powerful effect of sexuality on health, spirituality and longevity. Here are the three principals to healthy sexuality:

1. Be aware of your body and needs
Communicate your needs to your partner and do not force the act if it does not feel natural, if you are feeling low-energy, or if conditions are not safe and conducive. Do not force, or use artificial means to arouse yourself if your energy is low or if the conditions are not safe or conducive.

2. Tune into the seasons
Do as the animals do! Observation suggests that animals tend to be more sexually active in the spring and summer
and less so during the autumn and winter. Also, frequency of sex is dependent on your state of health.

3. Be considerate
It is important to gauge your partner's mood, energy, and needs so that you may accommodate them. Satisfaction for both partners is the first step toward reaping the therapeutic benefits of sexuality.

Thanks Dr. Mao for this informative entry that you did.

This is article is good because we are on the month of love and Valentines Day is near. As we know sex is another way that you could show your love and intimacy to partner. But we surely state that you should do this if you are on the right age and responsible enough for the act. Well if you’re not on the right age you could show your love to your lover in other ways. But no sex if your not on your right age. And besides you’re still young you don’t need to think about longevity of your life already. Think of your parents. Enjoy but don’t sin. :)

Caffeine Affects Diabetic Persons

Here’s an update with regards to our article about coffee . Last January 28, 2008 yahoo health posted an article about caffeine being harmful to those people with diabetic illness.

In a small group of 10 diabetics, glucose levels rose by 8 percent when participants took pills filled with the level of caffeine found in four cups of coffee.

"There's reason to believe that caffeine consumption -- and coffee is the most common source of caffeine -- may be harmful to people with type 2 diabetes and make it more difficult for them to keep their glucose levels under proper control," said study author James Lane, a professor of medical psychology at Duke University.

While our recent post about coffee speaks about the good effects of coffee for women who are on reproductive years. This contradicts the new found effect of coffee to diabetic clients. So they have conducted a research that on 10 patients with diabetes who are coffee drinkers. They will not take insulin for 72 hours and they will alternate drinking a cup of coffee and placebo. They will be examined through a small sensor putted on their stomach with the patients consent of course.

This research is aimed to know whether caffeine disrupts the body's ability to process blood sugar or it prevents diabetes on pregnant women. But the result will not yet be available until the month of February. So we will just update all of our readers on the result.

Coffee Reduces The Risk for Ovarian Cancer

Who loves to drink coffee? Well, almost all loves to drink coffee. Here’s latest news I got as I was surfing the net. This is especially good news to women who loves to drink coffee.

According to US researchers, caffeine lowered a woman’s chances of developing ovarian cancer. The risk is even less for women who do not take contraceptive pills or do not use hormone replacement therapy. Among women who had never taken the contraceptive pill, coffee drinking cut the risk of ovarian cancer by 35 percent. And for those who had not had hormone replacement therapy, the risk was 43 percent less.

Risk also appeared to decline the more total caffeine and coffee a woman consumed, the study found. Decaffeinated coffee had no apparent benefit. But the reasons behind the study is still not clear and further study and research is still being carried out.

Weighing the effect of coffee on its advantage and disadvantage, like the negative effects of coffee; increased heart rate and blood pressure and irregular heart beat as to the positive effects of coffee like it lowers the risk of diabetes, Parkinson’s disease and its acts as an antioxidant. The irregularities in the vital signs could be back into normal when the caffeine subsides.

But remember to take coffee in moderation. Cheers!!!

My Happy Feet

Almost all men don’t care about their foot. Sometimes they don’t even bother if they have foot problems. But according to the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons there are five foot problems men shouldn’t ignore. This includes Heel pain, Ankle sprains, Big toe stiffness and pain, Achilles tendonitis, and Ingrown toenails.

Heel pain is the most common problem affecting the foot and ankle. The most frequent causes of heel pain are not single injuries, such as a fall or twist, but repetitive or excessive heel pounding.

An ankle sprain is an injury to one or more ligaments in the ankle, usually on the outside of the ankle. Sprained ankles often result from a fall, a sudden twist, or a blow that forces the ankle joint out of its normal position.

The most common site of arthritis in the foot is at the base of the big toe. This joint is called the metatarsophalangeal, or MTP joint. It's important because it has to bend every time you take a step. If the joint starts to stiffen, walking can become painful and difficult.

Achilles tendonitis is a painful and often debilitating inflammation of the Achilles tendon (heel cord). Achilles tendonitis may be caused by a single incident of overstressing the tendon, or it may result from a series of stresses that produce small tears over time (overuse).

When a toenail is ingrown, the sides or corners of the nail curl down and dig into the skin, causing swelling, pain and redness. The major causes are shoes that don't fit well and improperly trimmed nails. Shoes that are too tight press the sides of the nail and make it curl into the skin. Nails that are peeled off at the edge or trimmed down at the corners are also more likely to become ingrown.

Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless leg syndrome (RLS, Wittmaack-Ekbom's syndrome, or sometimes referred to as Nocturnal myoclonus) is a condition in which your legs feel extremely uncomfortable while you're sitting or lying down. It makes you feel like getting up and moving around. When you do so, the unpleasant feeling of restless leg syndrome temporarily goes away. Because it usually interferes with sleep, it also is considered a sleep disorder.

People usually define RLS symptoms as unpleasant sensations in their calves, thighs, feet or arms. People usually don’t describe the condition as numbness or muscle cramps.

Some experts believe RLS and periodic limb movement disorder are strongly associated with ADHD in some children. Both conditions are hereditary and dopamine is believed to be involved. Many types of medication for the treatment of both conditions affect dopamine levels in the brain.

Common characteristics of RLS signs and symptoms include:

  • Starts during inactivity. The sensation typically begins while you're lying down or sitting for an extended period of time, such as in a car, airplane or movie theater.
  • Relief by movement. The sensation of RLS lessens if you get up and move. People combat the sensation of restless leg in a number of ways — by stretching, jiggling their legs, pacing the floor, exercising or walking. This compelling desire to move is what gives restless leg syndrome its name.
  • Worsening of symptoms in the evening. Symptoms typically are less bothersome during the day and are felt primarily at night.

Some people with restless leg syndrome never seek medical attention because they worry that their symptoms are too difficult to describe or won't be taken seriously. Some doctors wrongly attribute symptoms to nervousness, stress, insomnia or muscle cramps. RLS is often unrecognized or misdiagnosed. In many people the condition it is not diagnosed until 10-20 years after symptoms begin. Once correctly diagnosed, RLS can often be treated successfully.

Coping skills that may help you fight RLS includes:

  • Begin and end your day with stretching exercises.
  • Soaking in a warm bath and massaging your legs can relax your muscles.
  • Try relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga.

Emotional Side of Cancer Patients

When you are told the frightening words, “Your diagnosis is cancer”, a sequence of events occurs, sometimes overwhelming both patient and family. Feelings of hopelessness and helplessness and the inability to cope are common after hearing the shocking news. Often, patients are so overwhelmed and distressed that they become non-functional and may not hear or comprehend many of the explanations given to them - explanations that could often put their disease in perspective and help them cope better with the diagnosis. Many patients have commented that the emotional aspects of dealing with both having cancer and being treated for it, are one of the most difficult parts of this experience.
Cancer and its treatment pose physical and psychological problems for patients. Depression and anxiety are often under-diagnosed and under-treated. Emotional and adjustment problems could impair patients’ ability to cope with their treatment. The stress of coping with a cancer diagnosis ranges from mild to severe, often depending on the severity of the diagnosis and treatment and the prior mood of the survivor. A third or more of patients report emotional distress (mostly depression and anxiety) during the early months of treatment, and there may be similar levels of distress ongoing into survivorship.
Counseling, group therapy, and good supportive care can help patients and survivors effectively deal with these challenges. In addition, effective medications for depression and anxiety can help reduce distress. In particular, antidepressants can improve energy and mood, breaking the cycle of despair and poor self-esteem that can spiral into a worsening depression. It is important to treat depression vigorously with appropriate psychotherapy and medication, since depression is an independent risk factor for shorter survival time with cancer.

My Penis Won't Stand

Erectile dysfunction formerly called impotence is more common in men older than 65, but it can occur at any age. An occasional episode of erectile dysfunction happens to most men and is normal. As men age, it's also normal to experience changes in erectile function. Erections may take longer to develop, may not be as rigid or may require more direct stimulation to be achieved. Men may also notice that orgasms are less intense, the volume of ejaculate is reduced and recovery time increases between erections.

When erectile dysfunction proves to be a pattern or a persistent problem, it can interfere with a man's self-image as well as his and his partner's sexual life. Erectile dysfunction may also be a sign of a physical or emotional problem that requires treatment.

Erection problems usually produce a significant psychological and emotional reaction in most men. This is often described as a pattern of anxiety and stress that can further interfere with normal sexual function. This "performance anxiety" needs to be recognized and addressed by your doctor.

For some men, erectile dysfunction develops with age or may be related to depression or another psychological cause, such as widower syndrome.

Certain feelings can interfere with normal sexual function, including feeling nervous about or self-conscious about sex; feeling stressed either at home or at work; or feeling troubled in your current relationship. In these cases, psychological counseling with you and your sexual partner may be successful. One episode of failure, regardless of cause, may propagate further psychological distress leading to further erectile failure.

Restless Nights

Do you have trouble sleeping or staying asleep at night? Then you are experiencing a sleep deprivation—INSOMNIA!

Insomnia is a sleeping disorder characterized by the inability to fall asleep and/or the inability to remain asleep for a reasonable amount of time. Insomniacs have been known to complain about being unable to close their eyes or "rest their mind" for more than a few minutes at a time.

Sleep patterns and mood are intimately related. Sleep deprivation makes us irritable and depressed. Many of us become so desperate to get a good night's sleep that we resort to medications. But is that really necessary? Perhaps the best medicine of all is to really start listening to your body instead of working against its needs.

Here are some tips to have a good night sleep…

1. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco in any form, four to six hours before bed time.

2. Avoid heavy meal in the evening, but a light snack before bedtime may induce sleeping.

3. Avoid vigorous exercise before bedtime.

4. Go to bed only when feeling sleepy.

5. Practice relaxation technique.

6. Take a warm bath.

7. Keep regular bedtime hours.

8. Avoid naps longer than 30 minutes in the afternoon.

9. Listen to music.

10. Avoid illuminated bedrooms.

Cry

When was the last time you cried? Let me ask you that question. Was it about the pain that you felt or a joy of happiness that struck you? Crying could be on two things it may be that you’re happy or it may be that you’re sad. But why do people cry? Is it a form of a regression to infanthood that when we cry we feel comfortable that we do that? Or is it a defense mechanism of a person so that he or she would be the center of attention?

I do cry also sometimes. They say boys don’t cry? Nah! It’s because real men admits that they cry. Honestly at this very moment I’m at the peak of crying but I don’t want to. I just feel bad that’s all. I just think that if I cry for this matter I accept defeat. I’m not helpless I have people around me to hold on to, it’s not that I’m dependent to them. Come on! No man is an island after all. Right?

Chinese Herbs Heals Menstrual Cramps

Chinese herbs might be more effective in relieving menstrual cramps than drugs, acupuncture or heat compression. According to the Cochrane Library journal, that this herbs does not only relieved pain, but reduced the recurrence of the condition.

Period pain affects as many as 50% of women of reproductive age and, between 70%-80% of teenaged girls, lead to absences from school and work. While the cause is still under debate, it is believed to be linked to an imbalance in ovarian hormones.

Chinese herbal medicine has been used to treat the condition for many years now.
These herbs are namely Chinese angelica root (danggui), Szechuan lovage root (chuanxiong), red peony root (chishao), white peony root (baishao), Chinese motherwort (yimucao), fennel fruit (huixiang), nut-grass rhizome (xiangfu), liquorice root (gancao) and cinnamon bark (rougui).

There was a trial that involved 36 women and the result shows that 53% of those who took the Chinese herbs had said that they experienced less pain.

But these results are still under studies because the number of subjects that have been tested on this are only few. So the researchers are still finding more women to help participate on this study in order to have a more accurate and reliable results later on.

Bevacizumab-Irinotecan Treat Deadly Brain Cancer

Recent studies by Duke's Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, have showed that having the drug bevacizumab (brand name Avastin) and the standard chemotherapy agent irinotecan can help patients with one of the deadly tumor in the brain, the giloblastoma multiforme.

The treatment result shows that it could not only help prolong but it could also increase the rate of survival of those patients with giloblastoma multiforme.

Dr. James J. Vredenburgh, the lead of investigation said “These results represent tremendous hope for these patient and their families.”

He noted that 75 percent of patients with recurrent giloblastoma multiforme treated with standard therapy, such as chemotherapy alone, have tumor progression at six months, and fewer than 50 percent are alive after six months.

The study included 35 patients whose giloblastoma multiforme s returned after they'd had standard therapy, possibly including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. After the patients received the combination bevacizumab/irinotecan therapy, almost half had no tumor progression after six months, and 80 percent were still alive six months after diagnosis.

"We speculate that bevacizumab and irinotecan each attack a particular characteristic of the tumor independently, or they work together, with bevacizumab suppressing the growth of blood vessels which makes the tumor more susceptible to the chemotherapy. Further studies will tease out the exact mechanism of the therapy's success," Vredenburgh added.

We will be expecting more from this kind of therapy soon. And thus this would bring hope to those people out there having giloblastoma multiforme.

Aaah-chooo!!!

An allergy is an abnormally high sensitivity to certain substances, such as pollens, molds, dust mites, pets. Common indications of allergy may include sneezing, itching, and skin rashes. An allergy refers to an exaggerated reaction by our immune system in response to bodily contact with certain foreign substances. It is exaggerated because these foreign substances are usually seen by the body as harmless and no response occurs in non- allergic people. Allergic people's bodies recognize the foreign substance and one part of the immune system is turned on. Allergy-producing substances are called "allergens”.

When an allergen comes in contact with the body, it causes the immune system to develop an allergic reaction in persons who are allergic to it. When you inappropriately react to allergens that are normally harmless to other people, you are having an allergic reaction and can be referred to as allergic or atopic. Therefore, people who are prone to allergies are said to be allergic or "atopic."

WHAT CAUSES ALLERGIC REACTIONS?

Substances that cause the most allergic reactions include pollen, mold, dust mites, and pets.

POLLEN. Pollen allergy also known as hay fever occurs seasonally—in the spring, summer, and fall—when tress, weeds, and grasses release tiny particles, called pollen, which are carried through the air. Some trees also produce allergenic pollen. Few people are allergic to flowers. In fact, most people have little contact with the pollen of flowering plants, which is carried by insects, not the wind.

MOLD. Molds are part of the fungus family, and their spores can produce allergic reactions when inhaled. Mold is most common in damp basements, trays, houseplants, mattresses, barns, compost piles, and outdoor areas that are moist and shady.

DUST MITES. Dust mites are microscopic organisms in the dust found in all homes and workplaces. These mites can live in beddings and carpets. House dust, which is made up of a number of materials; contain dead dust mites and their waste products. It is these waste products that cause the allergic reaction.

PETS. Researchers have found out that the major allergens found in pets are proteins that come from the oil glands in the animal’s skin and are shed in dander and not caused by their furs. Saliva, which sticks in the fur when an animal licks itself, and urine are also sources of allergy-causing proteins.

The Art of YOGA!

Yoga is all about feeling good; feel the blood surging through your veins, the energy pulsating through your nerves, the bliss coursing through your whole being. Yoga is for everyone regardless of age, gender, color, or religion; from the healthiest to the sickest; from the richest to the poorest. Yoga is for the body, mind, and spirit. You learn to use your body, breath, and mind to stretch, relax, and energize yourself. Yoga is highly therapeutic. So get up and experience the art of yoga!

According to medical scientists, yoga therapy is successful because of the balance created in the nervous and endocrine systems which directly influences all the other systems and organs of the body. Yoga acts both as a curative and preventive therapy. The very essence of yoga lies in attaining mental peace, improved concentration powers, a relaxed state of living and harmony in relationships.

Through the practice of yoga, we become aware of the interconnectedness between our emotional, mental and physical levels. The ultimate goal of yoga is to make it possible for you to be able to fuse together the gross material, physical, mental, intellectual, and spiritual levels within your being.

Physicians and scientists are discovering brand new health benefits of yoga everyday. Studies show it can relieve the symptoms of several common and potentially life-threatening illnesses such as arthritis, arteriosclerosis, chronic fatigue, diabetes, AIDS, asthma and obesity. Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness, increases body awareness, relieves chronic stress patterns, relaxes the mind, centers attention and sharpens concentration.

Sleeping Breathless

Sleep apnea (apnea is a Latin word meaning “without breath”) is a serious disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops long enough during sleep to decrease the amount of oxygen and increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the blood and brain. In sleep apnea, breathing stops or becomes very shallow for periods of 10 to 20 seconds or longer many times during the night. The most common type of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnea is characterized by repetitive episodes of upper airway obstruction that occur during sleep, usually associated with a reduction in blood oxygen saturation.

The most common signs of sleep apnea are loud snoring and choking or gasping during sleep and being sleepy during the day.

Having a physical exam and providing your doctor with information about your sleep will help to diagnose sleep apnea. Your doctor may also want you to have special sleep tests. A sleep test, called polysomnography is usually done to diagnose sleep apnea. There are two kinds of polysomnograms. An overnight polysomnography test involves monitoring brain waves, muscle tension, eye movement, respiration, oxygen level in the blood and audio monitoring. (for snoring, gasping, etc.) The second kind of polysomnography test is a home monitoring test. A Sleep Technologist hooks you up to all the electrodes and instructs you on how to record your sleep with a computerized polysomnograph that you take home and return in the morning.

Treatment is aimed at restoring regular nighttime breathing and relieving symptoms such as loud snoring and daytime sleepiness. Treatment will also help associated medical problems, such as high blood pressure, and reduce the risk for heart attack and stroke. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the most common treatment for sleep apnea. CPAP is a machine that blows air into your nose via a nose mask, keeping the airway open and unobstructed.

Health Benefits of COFFEE

Many scientific studies have examined the relationship between coffee consumption and a wide array of medical conditions. Most studies are contradictory as to whether coffee has any specific health benefits, and results are similarly conflicting with respect to negative effects of coffee consumption.

Positive effects of coffee include reducing risks of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, cirrhosis of the liver, and gout.

Negative effects of coffee include drinking caffeinated coffee can cause a temporary increase in the stiffening of arterial walls, excess coffee consumption may lead to a magnesium deficiency or hypomagnesaemia.
